Joker Nies did build this little great box for me. There is a little one chip computer inside, which was programmed by this american guys from LOUD OBJECTS. It gives me random noises and I can play it back though my guitar... wild stuff, really fun!!

Oslo, Mannheim
the gig with goldbach and 11 dancers at the museum in Mannheim was very nice. We played 1 hour of free groove stuff, the place was packed... people seem to like free music and modern ballet, good... I was using my headless Hohner, the ringmodulator, boss dd2, a volume pedal, boss distortion, boss compression and a line6 delay.
With THE.KÖP did we play at Sound of Mu, did a 2 day workshop at the Norges Musikkhøgskole and played at the Drivhuset. The whole thing went on for 3 days and was a very intense, but a lot of fun and musically a great experience. THE.KÖP is a very exciting collaboration and you should catch one of our concerts soon!

THE.KÖP in Oslo - GOLDBACH in Mannheim
It became a little quite in the last few weeks, but sometimes we all need a break of this insane world of arts and entertainment. The life as a musician is very often the best you can imagine, but sometimes its too constrict, I just leave it alone. A creative break is helpful and healing, so I am really enjoying these days of thinking, relaxing and developing new concepts, which I will bring into reality soon.
But here are some performance dates anyways:
On the 1st of april my friends from THE.KÖP are coming from Køln to Oslo and we are oerforming on the 1.4. at Sound of Mu, giving this workshop on the 3.4. at the Musikkhøgskole here in Oslo and play at Drifthuset at the night of the 3.4. Let me say a few words about THE.KOP:
This is a sextett of Joker Nies, who does circuit bending stuff with old toy and quite trashy sound generators; Matthias Mainz, one of Germany´s more interesting trumpet players (he actually never released a love ballads or christmas song album... that´s one reason, why I like him so much ;-); Hannes Hölzl, who is so great in programming and performing with Super Collider and Maxx msp; Anders Tveit, on bass and laptop, he is the great man for low frequencies and tastefull electronics; Terje Evensen, the drummer and producer, who I really enjoy playing with for a couple of years now.
At Musikkhøgskole we are performing and talking for the performance and composition departement. Looking really forward!
After that, I am flying to Mannheim and play with GOLDBACH on the 5.4. at midnite during the Lange Nacht der Museen. Hope to see you there as well.

Just on my way to Germany to play with GOLDBACH again two gigs. I finished a workshop at Musikkhøgskole here in Oslo and did some great recordings. We play tomorrow at Sound of Mu with free GIN (guitar Impro Night). Lots of special guitar players joining a big jam of sounds, scenes, atmospheres... start at 20:00, come and join this special event.

update
Its a long time since the last update. It was a great summer with lots of traveling, chillin, recording etc. We played at the Molde Jazz Festivale with Kjetil Husebø, I went to Germany to play and record with Matthias Mainz, Terje Evensen, Anders Tveit and two great electronic guys, Hannes Hölzl and Joker Nies, spent time in the studio with GOLDBACH.
The album is finished now, very soon I can announce the label and a release date. GOLDBACH
Tomorrow we start the final recordings for the upcoming Gunia, Evensen, Tveit album. Last tuesday we had the first Oslo Jazz Session, which will happen ones a months and is hosted by me.

Played gigs with Bark in London, Gunia//Evensen//Tveit in Oslo and at the Jazz Rally Duesseldorf, with Feature Ring in Dresden, with Siffling, Vogt, Gunia // Dub-Star in Ruesselsheim. Right now I am working in Heidelberg with the modern dance ballet "Unterwegs Theater" at a breath-taking location. Have to say that it is a gift to play with all this wonderful musicians in the last couple of months and I am really happy for everything, what is happening right now! (had to be said..)

Lots of work during the last couple of weeks. Did some recording with guys from London, called COOL SIENCE. They actually set-up a studio surrounding outside Oslo and I went there in the middle of the night for some jamming. One of the Really cool place, house was build around 1500 (!!), all wooden. The sound inside was amazing.
Actually Bill Clinton smoked a cigar in this building... a cigar... got it?
Did a workshop at the Høgskole here in Oslo, we played a nice concert at the new Auditorium. I did some Live sampling and played a lot with Reaktor. The students played great, check out some little sound-clips here.

Nice gig with Kjetil Husebø and Michy Mano at MIR. Michy is a great singer and dj from Morocco, who did work with Bugge on the first (!) New conception of Jazz album... history.

Musikmesse Frankfurt
played at Frankfurt at the offical opening event with Siffling, Vogt, Gunia // Dubstar. Very cool gig, we will be back, check my tourdates. The hall we played in had a natural reverb time of 27 seconds... wow... Thats a lot of fun to fill up the room with all this strange sounds. Now is eastern, next project is now the acoustic guitar trio gig with Ketil Gutvik and Daniel Meyer Grønvold in Oslo. Looking forward! Also got a gig in London confirmed with this nice singer from New Zealand, check my tourdates.

It was a nice evening, thanks to everybody, who came (and everybody, who almost came... hang in there, one day you will be there and realize: It does not hurt! Cornelius Cardew "Treatise" II
So the concert went really well, we played through our pages of the piece and got quite inspired. Anders did beam up the charts to the walls so everybody in the audience could watch them, while we were performing. Actually there were quite a lot of people for such a contemporary piece and everybody was into the music, thx for that! Since we had such a good time performing, we are going to record the piece on sunday night, looking forward. By the way, today we had minus 12 degrees... cool. Next thing at sound of Mu will be a duo concert with Kjetil Møster, looking forward, will be some rough shit! 6ths of February at Sound of Mu...

Cornelius Cardew "Treatise"
We are going to perform extracts (pages 1-3 and 67-74.) from the 193 pages long grafic music-piece, which is meant as a basis for performing musicians. It was written in the late 1960ties.
The group will be:
Anders Tveit (Norge) - bass, gongs, radio and electronics
Alex Gunia (Tyskland) - extended guitar, electronics
Li Tie Qiao (Kina) - tenor and alto-sax

Gig at MIR // recording w/Li Tieqiao and Tore Brevik
Played at MIR here in Oslo with Kjetil Husebø; also had Audun Waage sitting in for a set, very nice concert.
Next day I did this extrem intense recording with this chinese Sax player Li Tieqiao (he lives in Oslo for a year, you should hear him, wow!) and Tore Brevik at Krise studio, thanx Knut Petter for the sound.
Today I got confirmation for playing two weeks in Germany next year end of may with this artist/theatre group in Heidelberg. We are going to do this real special installation there, really looking forward.

jams, plans and rehearsals
The last days were quite busy: Audun Waage was here in Oslo and we finished the press packs of ELEPHANTIX. We are very excited that Tord Kudson is coming along with some videocuts for the project. We are together developing a cool multimedia thing around the sloMo music. Stay tuned on this, great project.
Besides that we finished mixing recordings of Gunia/Husebø DUO and started rehearsing for the upcoming gig at MIR. Check out our myspace profile There will be music, fotos, clips etc in near future, sign up as a friend!
Last two days we rehearsed with Anders Tveit and Terje Evensen for the upcoming gigs her in Oslo and Germany. Was a lot of fun, we played at this nice collective rehearsal complex in Ensjø, nice.
So tomorrow there will be some music-writing with Nils Martin (Lama) and at night we master the recording with Husebø. Lots of stuff, saturday I am going back to Germany. A great time to all of you!

Sitting at Kjetil Husebøs Mini-Studio and mixing our music! We are so hyped, its amazing... at 2:30 music sounds so great! ;-) Yesterday we fixed the elephantix stuff with Audun Waage, checking out some studio-rooms tomorrow here in Oslo. Going home next week to Cologne. We have some rehearsals with Robert Babicz for the gig in Spain. Then going back to Norway, rehearsing, playing and working on further concepts.

The workshop at Musikkhøgskole went very nice, we played a good concert at a nice performance hall in school.
Afterwards we checked out this extrem cool duo HUMCRuSH at Blå, great concert!
Next day we started doing some soundcheck at the Krise studio with Knut Sævik, played a session with Per Mathisen, Audun Waage, Tore Brevik, Kjetil Husebø and me.

Workshop at Musikkhøgskole started yesterday, music goes in a nice direction, its fun! Also did this interview for Rockpalast (WDR, best german TV station). Afterwards we checked out this american bluessinger (!) who lives in Oslo now... really cool, sorry forgot the name. Afterwards we met Knut Sævik from Mongolian Jet Set and went to a real funky, soul place... We kicked ass on stage with a great line up... High energy, purely noisy... Knut and Kjetil Husebø (keys), Tore Brevik (drums), sorry forgot the bassplayers name, but he was great... Sax was cool too! forgot the name as well, getting old... So I have a good time here, winter is coming, love it. Tomorrow I do a recording with Kjetil Husebø, only Grand-Piano and noizescapes, on thursday there is the concert with the workshop-class at Musikkhøgskole, Friday Audun Waage is coming to Oslo and we will have a recording session with a great band... stay tuned. Today we met at Nils Martin Larsen`s house (aka known as LAMA) were he has all his instruments set up- We did some writing and ended up with some very nice sketches for some cool tunes, we will work on this stuff more soon.
So, monday I start teaching this class at the Musikkhøgskole, we will have a concert on thursday there. On monday-night I am giving an interview for a documentary about the Norwegian music scene made by the German tv-station WDR. Show you some pix later...

Nice private evening at the Jazzfest in Viersen
Yesterday I had a nice evening watching some cool concerts in Viersen, Germany. Very nice, small festival with long tradition. This year there was supposed to play Mike manieri with Bugge Wesseltoft. Concert got cancelled, so Nils Petter Molvaer played with Helge Sten... nice sloMo stuff....

Musikkhøgskole in Oslo // two samplers
Today I got the confirmation, that I am going to lead an ensemble at the Musikkhøgskole in Oslo in the second week of October. Thats exciting, I am looking forward.
Besides that I would like to give you (once again, but never here) the info, that there came out a tribute to Jeff Beck sampler "THE LONER" (on ESC records) with my old cover version of "cause we´ve ended as lovers". I personally like this version a lot, its dedicated to my fusion-years long time ago... but it rocks in a very special way!

I also did a nice version of a old Steely Dan song (thats funny enough!!) with my partner in crime, Philippe van Endert. Nice and quiet piece, check it out! We only play some acoustic guitars and there is a little noize in the background.

Matthias Mainz // Alex Gunia
So today I mixed some music from the sessions with Matthias. I enjoyed that as much as I enjoyed the jamming. We are going to have some gigs early 2007. Matthias did some great things with his trumpet running through a Kaoss Pad running into a Fender Twin Reverb. You hear all kinds of feedbacks made with the trumpet. I actually detuned the guitars and played only with different tools, very few electronic effects. Enjoy the music! (once again, mp3 sounds just NO GOOD, there are digital clicks and.... arrrgh! But, you know, maybe the music is good enough... ;-)

Fusion will be hip again... ;-) *Trio2*
Today I was still mixing on the Waage/Gunia ELEPHANTIX stuff. While I was searching through my hard-drives, I found this song of 16 minutes lenghts. Wow, thats pretty long, first reaction. While I was cooking some pancakes, I was listening to it and... its so cool! A song we recorded with Thomas Lieven (drums) and Martin Zjaja (bass) here in Germany 2 years ago. We had this routine of just getting together and jam for a couple of hours, sometimes til late at night. We only played 2 gigs together and it felt great! Thomas is becoming one of Germany´s busiest drummer and Martin is touring intensely with his band. So no more sessions or gigs right now, but check out the unique sounds and the tough 70ties energy of the track... and I promise, there was no sex or drugs involved... only Rock´n´Roll! Sometimes I miss it...
Before you listen to it: All the music on this site is in the format of mp3. Thats how it is in the net. I personally think, that the sounds of mp3s sucks. They CD was so much worse than a vinyl, the Mini Disc so much worse than the CD, mp3 much worse than Mini-Disc... So how is it ending?
If you enjoy my music, come to the concerts and/or buy the CDs (they only way to support a musician these days!!) and make sure you get the whole experience while consuming the music.

In the last couple of days we did some rehearsing with Kjetil Husebø, having lots of tracks together now for an album. Also kept working with Terje Evensen and Anders Tveit. Next week I´m going to Trondheim and at the weekend Audun Waage is coming for some more playing in trio with Nils (Lama). Looking forward! After that I´m heading Germany and do this two tracks for an amazing guy from Brasil, Nosly! He lives in Düsseldorf and is a outstanding singer, songwriter and guitar-player. Rehearsing at Mølleparken with Terje and Anders
Yesterday and today we did some great rehearsing/recording with Gunia/Evensen/Tveit at Terjes studio and used Bugges room as well. final edits
Today I did some final editing for the recordings with Kjetil Møster, Andreas Bye and Ole Morton Vaagan from January. It was great, Terje Evensen let me do this at his studio (its actually in the same studio-rooms as Bugge Wesseltofts "Bugges Studio"). Thanx Terje, now I´m ready to do some thinking on the promotional activities and the marketing.
Tomorrow I have a rehearsal with Terje and Anders Tveit at Christiania Lyd. We going to work on the concept for our upcoming gigs in November in Germany.

On Friday we jammed and recorded some stuff with Terje Evensen and Anders Tveit. Very exciting and experimental, cool! Check out some really raw clips. Something concerning this blog: All the sounds examples you find here are unreleased material and really rough recorded and fast mixed on my computer. They are reflecting (hopefully!) the magic of the moment and are here to give you some insight look in a certain side of the creative work of myself and the people involved. It´s so nice and exciting to show results in the development of music right away to a public without the need of releasing a cd. We are still developing the concept of this blogging and I´m still always curious, how people like it. So keep it up with sending e-mails to share ideas and thoughts. All is one!

Last two days we spent on the highways and the ferry to Oslo. We played a very intimate gig in Hamburg with Lothar Mueller and Audun Waage at the Jazzmeile in St.Georg. It was very exciting, everybody left lots of room in the music and we did some great music on the fly...and Germany is ViceVice-Worldchampion!

Yesterday we drove to Nürnberg to play at a huge festival for thousend of soccer-fans... but it got cancelled, because of heavy rain, jess, why not! People get wet, when its raining... so we are driving back all the way. Its 2 o´clock in the morning and I´m sitting in the bus right now and putting together some infos for my blog. So now I´m back on my way to Germany. Had a great time in Oslo, travelling back there on the 10ths for some exciting events. Now I will hopefully finish the january recording wit Ole Morton Vaagan, Andreas Bye and Kjetil Møster. Besides that there will be this one week recording in Frankfurt and I gonna record a track for this dude from Mexico, Orbit. He did send me an intersting song, let me see what I´m gonna put to this. Yesterday I played with Ketil Gutvik. Here you see some pics and find a few sound slices soon. Ketil did some inspiring and unique stuff with his electric and acoustic guitars. Very exciting, a cool thing between electronique-ambience-guitar and noisy-jazz. Today we also went out and watched Ketil Gutvik playing at the Oslo Sommerfestival. He is a fantastic guitar-player who is into a unique way of free playing with a strong jazz-attitude.

We had two great recording and rehearsal-sessions with Nils Martin Larsen (Lama), Audun Waage und me. Did some great and special recordings! Nils is doing great stuf with his Guitar, alto-sax, computer and a number of sound tools. Audun did some great trumpet stuff and I had some good moments too. Actually we caught up a bunch of very chillin´ moments and you will find some samples of this music here during the next couple of days.

So yesterday was an exciting day. Did some brilliant pixs with CF Wesenberg. He is a great fotografer and artist, I´m really happy, that it worked out to get him. He did some killer-pix for my new album, you will see them soon...!

LONDON
So I just started an exciting week. On thursday I´m going to London to play a gig with this great norwegian trumpet player Audun Waage, who lives in London. We also keep writing music together and going to record a couple of tunes there. You will find some pix here later.
Today I recieved some fantastic vocal tracks from Maria Jardardottir for my upcoming new album. She is a norwegian singer, who lives in Leeds right now and believe it or not, I met her through myspace.com... what a wonderful cyber-world! Thanx Maria, you´re wonderful!
